He comes from a musical family where the common pastime was singing and playing piano and other instruments. He started playing his clarinet locally for dances at age 14 and from that time has always been a member of various area bands. His musical ablitity enabled him to finance his entire college education at the University of Wisconsin during the depression. He continued playing while serving in the air force in WW II in North Africa. The highlight was playing The Pink Elephant in Casablanca.
Dick never formed his own group, altho he arranged and composed music for many of the bands in which he performed. He preferred to work as a side man as it complemented his chosen career as a dairy farmer.
Spencer “Dick” Hanson extends his thanks to all who made it possible for him to produce his interpretation of some of his favorite tunes as well as some of his original compositions.
